Product Design

Programme Overview

The course gives students the creative and technical knowledge and skills they need to become professionals in the product design industry. The emphasis is placed on conceptual investigation, critical thinking and a hands-on approach towards technological skills, manufacturing skills, and design management.

Duration: 6 months | 3 months

Our Certificate Course in Product Design equips students with the skills to create innovative and functional products. The 6-month program provides a comprehensive education in product design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes, while the 3-month Short Term Course offers a focused introduction to product design fundamentals and development.

Our Certificate Course in Product Design is divided into comprehensive modules, carefully curated from our Advanced Diploma program.
  • · 6-month Certificate Course: 8 modules from Advanced Diploma
  • · 3-month Certificate Course Course: 4 modules from Advanced Diploma

The Advanced Diploma in Product Design programme at Raffles College of Higher Education encourages creativity in the design of commercially viable and ecologically friendly products – through conceptualization, innovation, originality, technical skills, and professionalism at all levels. Close ties with industry also give the student a strong sense of ‘reality’ and realization of career prospects for the future.

Students will experience a broad-based, diagnostic curriculum – grasping investigational, analytical and problem solving design skills through a project based, modular system – which also encourages the investigation and understanding of varying materials, introduced to the creative process, with emphasis on applications in Product Design. Concurrently, students will explore design and cultural issues, as well as use 2D and 3D software applications for Product Design. The Advanced Diploma offers a more defined specialisation in Product Design, which also investigates areas of Modular Design and Packaging Design, instilling confidence in scale and scope of design issues and aesthetic sensitivities. Students will also be encouraged to be more ‘self-directed’ in their studies.

The programme objectives are delivered through lectures, seminars, case studies, studio workshops and tutorial feedback with a range of assessment methods including research and project work, presentations, written assignments, and examinations.
