Video game design is one of the most engaging design disciplines in the creative industries. While its key application domain is in digital entertainment, video game design is extending its reach rapidly to various industries. Nowadays, video game designs are actively and creatively deployed as teaching aids, promotion tactics, training simulations, etc. Leveraging on advanced game engines as well as the latest technology in various game platforms, the underpinnings of video game design revolve around the creation of engaging and compelling user experiences in gaming and other game related interactive applications.

Today, the video game design industry is increasingly competitive and ever-evolving with technological advancements. In view of this, the Advanced Diploma in Video Game Design programme is structured with emphasis on equipping students with industry-focused design knowledge and skill sets, as well as keeping them closely in touch with the technological development relevant to video game design.

Building on the foundation of Diploma in Animation & Game Design, the curriculum of Video Game Design encompasses advanced conceptual and technical skill development in areas such as design literacy, communication strategy, creative problem-solving, and analytical exploration of current design trends and industry development. The curriculum of the programme will be delivered in a mix of teaching strategies ranging from lectures and seminars to tutorials and technical demonstrations. Complemented with a comprehensive assessment framework, the pedagogic approach of the programme provides students with a positive learning experience that meets the intended learning objectives and outcomes.

Towards the end of the programme, students will gain advanced competency in conceptual ability, aesthetic sensibility, and technical proficiency in video game design. This will enable students to establish a strong design background to further their studies at degree level or to kickstart their career in video game design.
