Programme Details:

Visual communication is one of the most adaptable and versatile forms of design. Its origins can be traced back through artefacts from ancient cave paintings to illuminated manuscripts of the Middle Ages, to app icons in today’s smartphones. In the 21st century, visual communication design covers a broad range of design areas including designs in advertising, visual branding, signage and wayfinding system, packaging, editorial and publication, graphic system in web or app interface, etc. Leveraging on advanced visual authoring tools as well as the latest technology in print and screen media, the underpinnings of contemporary visual communication design revolve around the generation and application of creative message strategies to innovate visual solutions to real-world issues and needs.

Today, the visual communication design industry is increasingly competitive and ever-evolving with technological advancements. In view of this, the Advanced Diploma in Visual Communication Design programme is structured with emphasis on equipping students with industry-focused design knowledge and skill sets, as well as keeping them closely in touch with the technological development relevant to visual communication design.

Building on the foundation of Diploma in Visual & Media Design, the curriculum of Visual Communication Design encompasses advanced conceptual and technical skill development in areas such as design literacy, communication strategy, creative problem-solving, and analytical exploration of current design trends and industry development. The curriculum of the programme will be delivered in a mix of teaching strategies ranging from lectures and seminars to tutorials and technical demonstrations. Complemented with a comprehensive assessment framework, the pedagogic approach of the programme provides students with a positive learning experience that meets the intended learning objectives and outcomes.

Towards the end of the programme, students will gain advanced competency in conceptual ability, aesthetic sensibility, and technical proficiency in visual communication design. This will enable students to establish a strong design background to further their studies at degree level or to kickstart their career in visual communication.
